2021 Changes Coming to CFR

Hey folks, if you're taking the time to read this - thank you! CFR has been a little stale for about a year now. Could make excuses about COVID and/or how much time and energy it takes to maintain something like this, but when it comes right down to it we just got a little lazy. Time now to make some changes, so if CFR doesn't look exactly the same as what you remember, it's not just your imagination. Some of what you may now see or see soon will revolve around:

  • Making it easier to access fishing reports. The initial hope was that asking people to sign up to see full reports (and asking them to report back during the sign up process) would encourage more community participation. In the end, it probably was just an unnecessary barrier. We will be removing any 'gates' to content on the site and deleting all accounts that were created in the system.
  • Focusing less on individual fishing reports, and more on being a one-stop-shop for fishing resources of many kinds. It was a surprise, over the course of the last few years, to see how many hundreds of visitors the site was getting each month with relatively little advertising and promotion. It was an even bigger surprise to realize just how few people are willing to provide their own information. Seems like everyone wants to come to learn more, but few want to volunteer their own info, so we are trying to adjust the site to fit that to some extent.
  • Limiting the site contact form. You would not believe the spam. We may try to have more of a social media presence so people can contact us there, and we'll let those platforms filter out the spammers for us. If you really want to get in touch with us (especially if you'd like to be highly involved as a contributor to or maintainer of the site, please do reach out.
